Athens Olympic 110m hurdle champion Liu Xiang felt so relieved
to return to racetrack after getting out of the great number of social
activities.
Liu arrived in hometown Shanghai Wednesday night and was about to
resume training shortly after.
“I am so exhausted from so many
social activities, which made me even more tired than training,” said the
21-year-old Liu, who wrote a new chapter in China’s Olympic history by winning
the country’s first ever athletics short-distance running title in the men’s 110m hurdles in Athens in August.
“I am happy that I will
resume(繼續(xù))my training soon back in
Shanghai,” said the Shanghai native. He turned into an instant national hero
with the Olympic glory and one of the most popular Olympic gold medalists,
taking part in scores of celebration activities since he returned to China early
September.
“My regular training has been
interrupted for such a long time that I think I can only run at about 13.5
seconds now,” said Liu, who clocked a world record-tying time of 12.91 to
clinch the title.
“I would rather forget what I have achieved
in the past and try my best to realize a higher goal,” he said.
Liu already missed the Berlin
Golden League Series on Sunday and won’t be able to catch the IAAF Grand Prix
final slated for September 18-19 in
Monaco.
He plans on attending an IAAF all-star
tournament in Japan
at the end of this month.

A. Liu Xiang is content to go back to
training
B. Liu Xiang will win Golden League Series on
Sunday

Robots are smart. With their computer brains,
they help people work in dangerous places or do difficult jobs. Some robots do
regular jobs. Bobby, the mail carrier, brings mail to a large office building
in Washington, D.C. He is one of 250 mail carriers in the United States.
Mr. Leachim, who weighs two hundred pounds
and is six feet tall, has some advantages as a teacher. One is that he does not
forget details. He knows each child’s name, the parents’ names and what each
child knows and needs to know. In addition, he knows each child’s pets and
hobbies. Mr. Leachim does not make mistakes. Each child goes and tells him his
or her name, then dials an identification number. His computer brain puts the
child’s voice and number together. He identifies the child with no mistakes.
Then he starts the lesson.
Another advantage is that Mr. Leachim is
flexible(=changeable). If the children need more time to do their lessons they
can move switches. In this way they can repeat Mr. Leachim’s lesson over and
over again. When the children do a good job, he tells them something
interesting about their hobbies. At the end of the lesson the children switch
Mr. Leachim off.
49.
The first paragraph of the passage tells us _____.
A. human beings are not as smart as robots
B. robots will take the place of man to rule
the earth
C. we can only use robots to do some regular
jobs
D. robots can help people in many different
ways
50.
Mr. Leachim’s _____ makes him
a good teacher.

knowledge

advantages

51.

A. To meet the needs of each student.
B. To talk to the students in different
languages.
C. To keep everyone’s interest in his lesson.
D. To introduce more hobbies to the children.
52.
Which of the following statements may be true according to the passage?
A. There are 250 robot teachers in the United States.
B. Mr. Leachim is run and controlled by
electricity.
C. Bobby works in a large office building in Washington D.C.
D. The lessons taught by Mr. Leachim are
given on a TV set.
第二節(jié) 回答問題
(共3小題,6分) 閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)題目要求,簡(jiǎn)要回答問題。
Getting
married can be one of the happiest moments in a person’s life. Throughout the
world, weddings are very important events. Let’s look at some interesting
wedding customs from different countries.
For Americans,
it is tradition for the married couple to jump over a broom or a brush covered
with flowers. This represents the beginning of family life. It is interesting
to note that American slaves who were brought to the USA started this tradition.
Making jokes
about the bride and groom is a wedding tradition in both France and Germany . In France , this includes making loud noises with
pots and pans; in Germany,
wedding guests break dishes. Weddings in Germany often last for three days!
In Greece and Italy, people eat special kinds of
sweets at the wedding. Both Greece
and Italy
also have their own special wedding dances, which all of the guests enjoy.
In Russia, couples
tie a doll to their wedding car if they want to have a daughter or a toy bear
if they want to have a son.
In the USA, the bride
usually carries a bouquet of flowers during the wedding ceremony. After the
ceremony, the unmarried women get together and the bride throws the bouquet.
The woman who catches the bouquet is supposed to be the next person to get
married.

The Chinese are very generous when it comes
to educating their children. Parents often send their children to the best
schools or even abroad. They also want their children to take after-school
activities. They believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it
is.
However, most parents don’t know that the
best education is usually very cheap. Parents can only see that their children’s
skills change, skilled in some areas while poor in others. But they don’t
realize that today’s children lack(缺少) self-respect and self-confidence. The problem is that parents only
teach them on how to take tests, but not teach them the most important skills
they need to be confident, happy and clever.
So parents can achieve this by teaching their
children practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework.
Teaching a child to cook will improve many of
the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking needs patience and time. It
is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve
his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job
successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction
and a lot of confidence.
Some old machines, such as broken radio or a
TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse
his interest. Your child might become an engineer when he grows up. These
activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather to think,
to use his mind. And that is more important.

different opinions about happiness.1. Some students thinks they will be happy
if there is no endless homework or exams. 2. Some students believe that
if one is admitted into a key university , he will be the happiest man in the
world. 3. Some think that happiness means achieving success in
something, such as getting the first place in the exams or creating a wonderful
play at the Art Festival. 4.Others believe that happiness is being surrounded
by a group of true friends. 5.Still others think that happiness means
growing up quickly and being independent
In my
opinion, happiness is a subjective feeling.6. Being healthy is happiness.
Happiness is also connected with the process of getting success. 7.Getting
more new knowledge every day makes me happy. Actually I find happiness
in helping people in need. I feel happy owing to enjoying colourful
